The National Defence College hosted Her Excellency Mariam bint Mohammed Al Muhairi, Minister of Climate Change and Environment, to deliver a lecture on "The UAE's Strategy in the Field of Climate Change and Environmental Protection" on Thursday, January 5th, 2023. Where Her Excellency was received by His Excellency Major General Oqab Shaheen Al Ali, Commander of the National Defence College and wing leaders at the college.
The lecture, which was attended by participants of the 10th national defence course 2022-2023, aims to inform them about the UAE's strategy in the field of climate change and environmental protection, as climate change is one of the most important environmental issues at the national and global levels, given the environmental, economic and social risks that this change entails.
The lecture also highlighted the country's efforts to confront the repercussions of climate change and adapt to its potential impacts on ecosystems and economic sectors, as these efforts included many policies in economic diversification and focusing on the green economy, policies to diversify energy sources by focusing on renewable and clean energy and enhancing its efficiency, transport policies and sustainable urban planning, among others.
At the end of the lecture, Her Excellency Mariam Al Muhairi explained to the students the role played and working on by the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment in cooperation with its partners in the public and private sectors in enhancing efforts to deal with the issue of climate change through the National Climate Change Plan 2050 adopted by the UAE Cabinet in 2017, in addition to other policies and programs related to national environmental climate efforts.
