Nikolas Gardner, Ph.D. Professor
Nikolas Gardner is Professor of Strategy at the UAE National Defence College. He came to the NDC from the Royal Military College of Canada, in Kingston, Ontario, where he served as Chair of the War Studies graduate program, and the Class of 1965 Chair in Leadership.
From 2006-2011 Dr. Gardner taught at the USAF Air War College in Montgomery, Alabama, where he served as the first academic director of the Grand Strategy Program, developing a specialized curriculum designed for senior military officers with advanced academic qualifications.
Dr. Gardner is the author of Trial by Fire: Command and the British Expeditionary Force in 1914 (Praeger, 2003), and The Siege of Kut-al-Amara: At War in Mesopotamia, 1915-1916 (Indiana University Press, 2014). He has published numerous articles and chapters on a broad range of topics, including military and strategic thought, the First World War, and the role of contractors in British foreign policy in the Middle East. In 2008 he was made a Fellow of the Royal Historical Society.
